Pop-3 is the method of receiving email where a host collects and holds your email, and your email program gets it for you over the Internet. This used to be the most common method of receiving email on the net, and is still pretty popular.

In this scenario, our server (Alvars.Net) acts as the host and holds all email addressed to you until your email client downloads it from us, to your computer. There are a number of very good email clients for this, you might consider PocoMail (this used to be free, but no longer), Pegasus Mail, (one of the original programs on the net, a little dated but solid and still free), and Thunderbird (this is free and was written by Mozilla, the people that bring you Firefox!).

The address for all Pop-3 Email accounts will be like this:   yourname@alvars.net

NEW:   all Pop-3 accounts are now are web enabled. With the same account you can read your email over the internet with your browser, or use an email client to download it.

Web Based  Email is when your email is held by a host on the internet (just like Pop-3 above).   However, unlike Pop-3, with Web Based Email you use your web browser to read your mail. Instead of downloading it to your computer first and then viewing it, with Web Based Email you view it over the Internet, right from the host computer.

Email Forwarding  means that email sent to you at Alvars.Net is automatically forwarded to any account you wish.   For example, lets say your regular email account is Ghkj163@aol.com. With Email Forwarding you could have all email sent to yourname@alvars.net and it would then be automatically forwarded to your AOL account.

The advantage of a system like this is, if you change your Internet Service Provider (ISP) from AOL to Cox (or any other local ISP) you will still be yourname@alvars.net and can change your account to have your email forwarded to your new ISP.

The address for all Forwarded Email accounts will be like this:   yourname@alvars.net

To apply for Email Forwarding, go to the [Email Signup] page.

Note:   to change your email forwarding account, click on the signup link and enter all of the information except password. In the password box, enter the address your email was forwarded to originally, for confirmation.
Enter your name, your NEW, or current email address to forward to, click Web-Based, enter your current email name at alvars, and the email address that your accout was forwarded to previously.
